metallic matterial

a friend gave me a box of craft stuff. christmas in june!! there are several large pieces of metallic matterial in there. any one know how to work with it?? it is thin and frays easy. i want to make quilt yo-yo's and put on black matterial, but the needle is tearing it. or cut strips and put on black matterial.. when i look at the matterial i keep thinking underwater, so i want some kind of underwater quilt i can use any suggestions.

    It's probably Lame, I don't have the little accent on my keyboard, so think lah-may. It works best if you fuse it to a lightweight interfacing. That will control the fraying and make it easier to handle.

      thanks for the help. i cant wait to get to the store & try out some of the suggestions i got. i really want to start this project.
